Die Baumaßnahmen nach Vollendung der Kirche, wie die noch ausständige Errichtung des Turms, lag nicht mehr in den Händen des Landesfürsten, der fortan dem Gottesdienst in seiner neuen Burgkapelle beiwohnte, sondern in jenen der Pfarre. Aus statischen Gründen wurde das burgseitige Portal im Turmerdgeschoß um 1300 geschlossen und das ehemals landesfürstliche Tympanon mit der crux gemmata an seinen heutigen Platz am Portal im nördlichen Seitenschiff versetzt. Der zunächst unvollendet gebliebene prismatische Turm erreichte ungefähr die Höhe der Traufe der Kirche. Der Bereich zwischen St. Michael und der Burg der Habsburger füllte sich langsam mit den Wohnhäusern und Palästen adeliger Familien.

Construction measures after completion of the church, like the building of the tower, were no longer in the hands of the ruling prince, who henceforth attended mass in his new chapel inside the residence, but of the parish. For structural-engineering reasons, the palace-facing portal on the tower ground floor was walled up, and the former princely tympanum with its crux gemmata was moved to the place it has today above the portal in the north aisle. The prismatic tower, which first remained uncompleted, roughly came up to the eaves of the church. The area between St. Michael’s and the Habsburg castle slowly filled with townhouses and palaces of noble families.
