The Friends of St. Michael and their purpose
The Friends of St. Michael have made it their task to preserve the church and nurture the cultural activities in St. Michael through financial support that cannot be provided by the parish alone or by other authorities.
The parish church of St. Michael is one of the oldest and most important buildings in Vienna. It requires significant effort to preserve this grand cultural heritage in all its diversity; not only for the People of today, but, maybe more importantly, for future generations.
The Friends see themselves as an association that works independently from the parish, yet closely together in the endeavour to provide support; through membership fees, by donations, through voluntary services and in the context of sponsoring activities of public and private companies.
In recent years, with the help of the Friends, important restorations have been carried out: The Restoration of the Sieber organ, the church facade, the baptistery, the portico, the Vesper Picture Chapel and finally the restoration of the sacristy, which was finished at Pentecost 2008.
